Rushdi traveled to Lebanon after he graduated from high school, and joined his older brother who worked in Beirut. On August 4, 2020, he walked down to a nearby grocery shop in Mar Mkhayel to buy some cigarettes when the explosion happened. Rushdi was missing until his brother found him dead the next day.
