On August 4, 2020, Ali was with his wife Mariam in their family home in Basta neighborhood of Beirut. He was injured by broken glass shards, causing a severe infection resulting in complete hearing loss. Due to his drastic economic conditions, Ali did not receive any treatment, and he currently needs a cochlear implant to recover his hearing.
