Jamal was born in Bangladesh in 1993, to a poor, yet very loving, family. He grew up with three brothers and a sister. Although he went to school in his home country,  he didn’t have the chance to pursue his education. When faced with the choice of staying in his country or leaving, he chose to settle in Lebanon, to provide for his parents and siblings.

تلقّى تعليمه في بلده دون أن يُحالفه الحظ بإنهاء تحصيله العلمي. وبين البقاء في بلده بنغلادش والعمل في الخارج، اختار لبنان بلداً للقمة عيشه وعيش والديه وإخوته. جاء إلى بيروت عام 2016 عبر وسيط، وبعد سنة ونصف السّنة ترك كفيلَه باحثاً عن عمل آخر بمردود أفضل، ليتّخذ مع زملاء له مسكناً بالقرب من مستشفى الرّوم- الأشرفيّة، ويجد عملاً في مطبخ مطعم Pizzanini في الجمّيزة قبل سنة ونصف السّنة.

كان من العمّال الأكثر بؤساً، إذ كان يُساند أسرته في بنغلادش، التي بنت كل آمالها وأحلامها على الأوراق النّقدية التي يتقاضاها جمال. رغم حياته البائسة وبالرّغم من كل الظّروف الإقتصاديّة التي كان يعيشها، كان دائما مُتفائلاً، مُبتسماً، مشرق الوجه، لطيف المعشر، نشيطاً صاحب أخلاق حميدة. لكنّ شبح الموت لم يفرّق بين صالح وطالح.

At 6:07 PM, on august 4, 2020, Jamal was at the restaurant’s kitchen, few miles away from the Port of Beirut. The explosion wounded him and destroyed everything around him. At 10:00 PM, he was evacuated to Saint George Hospital, in a critical condition. An hour later, he was transferred to Mount Lebanon Hospital where he stayed for 21 days, and underwent multiple surgeries to heal from the shattered glass that hit his thin body. He lost his battle, and passed away on August 25, 2020, succumbing to his wounds.

His corpse remained at the hospital’s morgue until travel paperwork was completed. His dead body was flown to Bangladesh, with other Bangladeshi victims of the Beirut blast. They were received with tears and broken hearts, after a long time apart, they spent in difficulty and hardship, to have their lives taken away from them in a horrific explosion.
