Tharwat was passionate about sports and martial arts, and he won the Lebanese Kickboxing Championship. However, he chose to become a firefighter, despite the risks of such a career. On August 4, 2020, he responded to the fire at warehouse number 12 at the port of Beirut. After the explosion, Tharwat was missing for twelve days, when some of his remains were found. His family refused to bury him until they find the rest of his dead body.
